Daniel Meyers, a native of Waverly, Iowa, is a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and has performed with numerous regional orchestras and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College in Minnesota and a Master of Music degree from DePaul University in Chicago. In addition to performing Daniel leads marketing for UChicago Presents, the professional concert series at the University of Chicago, and he serves on the board of The Musical Offering in the Twin Cities, Minnesota’s premier chamber music ensemble comprising musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra.

What are some of your favorite music memories? My favorite musical memories come from traditions in the St. Olaf Orchestra, such as winking at each other in rehearsals (and performances), cheering for soloists and yelling STOOB (St. Olaf Orchestra Brass) during bows, disco buses after concerts, and "secret orchies". These traditions fostered a very special community that was evident in performances.

Why is orchestral music important? I think playing in and hearing orchestras is one of the greatest expressions of empathy, and it offers very profound opportunities for connection.

What do you do when you're not playing?  like to rock climb, bike, hike, read, cook, do yoga, and think about music, and I like all of it with friends.
